Oscar Party 2013

It all started a week before the Oscars when I received a text:  Are you having an Oscar party?

...Husband is out of town... We've got a great tv for it... I haven't seen any of the movies... Could be lots of fun....

My reply: Why not?!

Where do you turn when you only have a week to plan an Oscar Party? Why Pinterest of course!

I quickly sent out invites via text and a snappy little app I love called Red Stamp**.

Now to make this party all about the 2013 Oscars:

Food - I challenged all guest to bring something thematically tied to one of the Oscar movies.

Chicken Pot Pi(e) - Life of Pie
Philly Cheesesteak Crostini - Silver Linings Playbook
Hummus & other dips - Argo/Zero Dark Thirty
Tabouleh - Argo/Zero Dark Thirty
Sausages & Meats - Beast of the Southern Wild
Strawberries stuffed with Marscapone Cheese - Amour
Cupcakes with Top Hats - Lincoln
Apple Pie - Lincoln/Life of Pi

Drink - This one is easy to tie to the movies; Amour & Les Miserables are both French.
Champagne & wine from France

Don't be fooled, we had a lot of wine... It's a long show...

Decorations - A life sized Oscar statue and red carpet is a must!

Games - Oscar Ballot Predictions & Oscar Bingo

A dollar to play each game. Creating the bingo cards took some time, but was well worth it. It made watching the speeches a lot more interesting. Each column was a different category. We had Oscar Attire, Same old Same old (For the comments that the winners always say in their speeches), Outrageous Name Dropping, Audience Shots, Thank Yous.

How to Play Oscar Bingo:
Mark off a box each time you see someone ON STAGE (except for the “Audience Shots” and  “Oscar Attire” categories) who says, does, or wears what is in the box.
• “Regulation Thank Yous” must come during an acceptance speech.
• When you get five across, down or diagonal, shout “Oscar!” (or “Bingo”) Collect a fabulous prize, or lord it over your friends
• If you want to keep playing, just fill in all your boxes.
• Bend or break the rules often. Don’t sweat it. It is only a game, and kind of a lame one at that.
• This sheet is good only for 2013, since the Oscars change every year.
• Quotes can be a close approximation – they don’t need to use exact words

Attire - Oscar attire encouraged but not required

I thought the party was a success and lots of fun. It seemed like my guests had fun too!

**Red Stamp is a favorite free app I use to send out quick thank yous. I"ll take a picture of the baby put "thank you" over the pic and then email, text or even mail it out. It's pretty simple and awesome.
